Job Description

APSTA Employment Opportunity

Behavioral Specialist

Monday – Friday

Responsibilities:                              

  • Provides consultation regarding best practices of MTSS
  • Assists with the development and implementation of district wide policies and procedures
  • Provides consultation and intervention regarding behavior management, effective education and assessment of behavioral needs of students with and without disabilities
  • Conducts student consultations to inform behavior support practices
  • Designs, implements and monitors behavior programs for students
  • Prepares written reports, as needed by the district to outside psychiatric professionals/community agencies re: behavioral concerns of students with or without disabilities
  • Conducts classroom observations to support behavior related management & instruction
  • Possesses the ability to conduct functional behavioral assessments and design, implement and monitor behavior intervention plans
  • Serves as a member of the CSE for students with behavioral concerns
  • Provides teacher-coaching and support related to classroom management
  • Collects and analyzes data to inform behavioral practices across the district
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Job Qualifications

Valid NYS Teacher Certification and License

General Statement:                        

  • Valid NYS certification as a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, School Counselor or Special Education Teacher is required
  • BCBA or coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis preferred
  • Must have strong working knowledge of PBIS/RtI/MTSS
  • Experience working with children/adolescents with a variety of psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders 
  • Experience developing Functional Behavioral Assessments, positive behavioral supports
  • Experience working with staff and administrators on interventions to support student behavior
