The City School District of Albany is looking for a certified district administrator to manage our recruitment, development, and retention efforts. This person will help us grow a diverse workforce that mirrors the diversity of our students and community, and will be the public face of finding, welcoming, and ensuring new employees are successful in our District. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Human Resources (HR) and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development to develop recruitment strategies, build and maintain a sustainable talent pipeline for both current and future hiring needs, coordinate student-teaching placements and new staff mentoring programs, manage grant-funded pipeline initiatives, and collaborate with district leadership, school administrators and HR to identify and implement strategies that support our staff and reduce turnover.
Recruitment:
Work with the HR Director to develop and implement creative recruiting strategies to attract a diverse pool of qualified candidates.
Build relationships with colleges and universities
Create recruitment plans by job function that strategically target the right candidates for those positions
Utilize social media, job fairs, and community events to promote job openings
Build partnerships with regional businesses and municipalities to co-recruit
Develop Pipeline Initiatives:
Build and maintain a sustainable pipeline for both current and future hiring needs
Partner with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) supervisor to establish a "grow-your-own" program that graduates paraprofessionals on track to become certified teachers
Lead grant-funded initiatives that provide financial incentives and tuition reimbursements for staff, primarily for certificated employees (e.g. teaching assistants, teachers, and principals)
Build strong relationships with professional preparation programs and educational organizations to create a consistent flow of potential candidates
Responsible for nurturing these relationships and keeping potential candidates engaged with our organization even when there are no immediate openings
Coordinate Student Teaching placements
Retention and Development:
Evaluation of certified educators, including administrators, to assist in decision-making around tenure, discontinuance, and reassignments
Supervise the District’s mentor coordinators (for APSTA and APSUE) and lead activities for new hire cohorts, fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for shared learning and growth
Create and support initiatives that include mentorship programs, and professional development opportunities that foster a supportive and collaborative school culture
Ensure that our employees feel valued, heard, and supported in their important work
Collaborate with district leadership, school administrators and HR to identify and implement strategies that support our staff and increase retention
Serve, and lead, as a member of the District’s climate, culture and retention team
Minimum Requirements
Required: A Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred: A Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Education Administration, or a related field.
Certification:
NYS School District Leader certification preferred
Professional Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
A minimum of three (3) years in a management or leadership role directly overseeing recruitment, employee development, and/or retention programs, OR three (3) years in a leadership role in a K-12 school district.
Professional knowledge of current best practices in human resources, talent acquisition, and organizational development, particularly in a public, urban school district.
Ability to use HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, time-to-hire, diversity statistics) to inform strategy and measure program effectiveness.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with school administrators, district leadership, Human Resources staff, and community partners.
Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., EEO/Affirmative Action, hiring practices, anti-discrimination laws), and direct knowledge of NYS Education Law regarding certification and tenure.
