Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach
Position Overview
The Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, and administration of the entire boys basketball program. The coach will promote the educational mission of the school district by fostering academic success, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth among student-athletes.
The Head Coach serves not only as an instructor of the sport but also as a mentor, role model, and community ambassador. The coach will work to build strong relationships with students, families, school staff, and the broader community while developing a competitive and developmentally appropriate basketball program.
The Head Coach is responsible for maintaining a program that reflects the district’s core values of respect, equity, accountability, and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Leadership

Plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of the boys basketball program at both the high school and modified levels.

Establish and communicate clear expectations for student-athletes related to conduct, academic performance, and team commitment.

Create a positive team culture that emphasizes accountability, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Coordinate with junior varsity and modified coaches to ensure continuity and long-term development of the basketball program.

Serve as a mentor and positive role model for student-athletes.
Coaching and Player Development

Plan and implement structured practices focused on skill development, conditioning, teamwork, and strategy.

Teach fundamental and advanced basketball techniques appropriate for the high school level.

Prepare athletes for interscholastic competition through effective game planning and strategic instruction.

Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to support athlete growth and development.

Encourage student-athletes to participate in offseason skill development and conditioning opportunities when appropriate.
Student-Athlete Development

Promote academic achievement and monitor student-athlete eligibility.

Encourage responsible decision-making and personal accountability among team members.

Support student-athletes in balancing academic, athletic, and personal responsibilities.

Foster leadership skills and character development among team members.
Supervision and Safety

Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during all practices, games, and team activities.

Follow district emergency procedures and safety protocols.

Maintain proper supervision of athletes at all times.

Promote safe training and conditioning practices.
Program Administration

Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director regarding program operations, needs, and concerns.

Coordinate schedules, transportation, and facility use with the athletic department.

Maintain accurate equipment inventory and ensure proper care of uniforms and athletic equipment.

Attend athletic department meetings, professional development opportunities, and league meetings when required.

Adhere to district policies and procedures as well as all rules and regulations of the governing athletic association.
Community Engagement and Relationship Building
The Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach will serve as a representative of the school district and athletic program by building strong relationships with students, families, school staff, and community members. Athletics play an important role in fostering school pride and strengthening connections between the school and the community.
Family and Parent Engagement

Maintain open, consistent, and respectful communication with parents and guardians regarding team expectations, schedules, and student-athlete development.

Provide opportunities for parents and families to support and positively engage with the basketball program.

Promote the basketball program as a positive presence within the local community.

Build relationships with youth basketball programs, recreation leagues, and community organizations to support future participation and development.

Represent the school and district in a professional and positive manner at athletic events and community gatherings.

Reporting Structure
The Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director and works collaboratively with school administrators, athletic staff, and district personnel.
