Assistant Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics

The Assistant Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics will provide leadership support in the
development, implementation, coordination and supervision of the district’s Health, Physical Education, and Athletic
programs.

Responsibilities

1. Hiring - assists the Athletic Director in the recruitment and retention of Health & PE teachers, and Athletic coaches, in addition to other staff in the department
2. Standards & Curriculum - Assist in the evaluation of Health/PE curriculum to ensure that it is aligned to NYS standards; make recommendations for revision/modifications and assist teachers in implementing new resources, methods, or content/standards, as needed
3. Communication - effectively communicate to various stakeholders in HPEA Department
4. Budget - assists in the implementation of the HPEA budget
5. Resources - assists in the maintenance of inventory of all equipment and supplies, including the cleaning, storage, and refurbishment and care of all athletic equipment.
6. Facilities - assists in the coordination, preparation, and maintenance of district-wide facilities for interscholastic practices and competitions
7. Staff supervision of Health & PE teachers and athletic coaches, inclusive of district observation/evaluation processes
8. Scheduling - assists in master schedule for Health & PE teachers and scheduling athletic competitions
9. Physicals - In collaboration with Pupil Personnel Services, assists in the coordination of pre-season physical exams for all prospective student-athletes.
10. Transportation - supports the coordination of transportation for all athletic competitions and practices
11. Officials - Assists in securing all officials for home interscholastic competitions and scrimmages
12. Student Supervision - Discusses and addresses individual student concerns including the discipline, suspension, exclusion or removal of a students from participating in athletics or attending athletic events, using the District Code of Conduct and the Interscholastic Athletic policy for guidance and in collaboration with building administration, as appropriate
13. Intramurals - Assists in the coordination of all intramural programs at the secondary schools
14. Eligibility - assists in all aspects of the eligibility process, accident and injury process, and grade 7&8 selective classification procedures
15. Certifications - Assists in maintaining accurate records of all athletic coaching certificates, and provide support to coaches in maintaining their certifications (First Aid, CPR, Coaching, Lifeguard)
16. Rules & regulations - Enforces all Board policies, NYSPHSAA codes, and federal and state laws/regulations, including Title IX, as pertains to PE and Athletics
17. Record Keeping - assists in the maintenance of records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, and participation
18. Professional Development - Provides PD for Health & PE staff, and athletic coaches in each new season
19. Program evaluation - Assists the Director of HPEA with the annual evaluation of the overall interscholastic sports program to determine if the program is responsive to student needs and meets district expectations
