APSAA JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Giffen Memorial Elementary Assistant Principal is a grant-funded position created to support the school’s improvement plan and the ongoing effort to exit accountability status. This role emphasizes ensuring the fidelity of implementation of tiered behavior practices, procedures, and supports, while also leading alongside the current administrative team to continue to strengthen the overall culture and climate of the school. In addition, the Assistant Principal provides instructional leadership, assists with daily operations, and ensures a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.

Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.

Essential Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership & Staff Support

  • Provide instructional leadership to staff, including curriculum planning, review, and implementation.
  • Support ongoing professional development that equips staff to deliver strong instruction and tiered behavior support.
  • Monitor and coach staff to ensure fidelity to Tier I practices that enhance academic, behavioral, and social-emotional outcomes.

School Culture, Climate, & Behavior

  • Lead the implementation of tiered behavior systems, practices, and supports with fidelity.
  • Collaborate with staff to strengthen school culture and climate, prioritizing equity, safety, and student success.
  • Handle student discipline fairly and consistently, maintaining accurate records of all disciplinary actions (ISS, OSS, administrative detention, etc.).
  • Use behavioral and climate data to identify trends and inform strategic decision-making.

Leadership & Management

  • Assist the principal in the overall administration and daily management of the school.
  • Serve as the acting principal in the absence of the building principal.
  • Conduct and support safety inspections and drills to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Partner with families, faculty, students, and community stakeholders to build positive relationships in support of school improvement.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in parent, faculty, and student groups or committees as requested.
  • Perform additional tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the principal to support the school’s accountability goals and improvement strategies.

Responsibilities:                              

  • Sets tables and clears them after meals.
  • Cleans dining rooms and dish and linen closets.
  • Cleans, washes and otherwise prepares vegetables and fruit for cooking.
  • Assists in the preparation of salads and desserts.
  • Helps Cooks or Bakers in any phase of their duty.
  • Washes dishes, pots and pans by hand or machine.
  • Sweeps mops and cleans kitchen.
  • May act as cashier as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
