Responsibilities:                              

  • Sweeps and mops floors, stairs and halls;
  • Mows lawns, trims shrubs, rakes leaves and performs other ground keeping tasks as assigned;
  • Strips and waxes floors and halls using heavy machinery;
  • Performs general cleaning of rooms: dusting furniture; washing and cleaning walls, work benches and areas, blackboards, desks, windows, sinks, showers, toilets and locker rooms;
  • Empties wastepaper baskets, disposes rubbish from large barrels into removal truck containers;
  • Operates heavy rug shampoo equipment;
  • Clears snow and ice from sidewalks, doors, entryways and parking lots;
  • Maintains grounds by picking up trash and debris;
  • Arranges chairs, tables and other equipment in buildings for special events;
  • May unload truck deliveries, stock shelves, issue supplies, and perform other heavy lifting and moving tasks;
  • May perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, etc.;
  • May act as watchman when needed.
  • Does related work as required.

Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

  • Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment;
  • Good ability to use cleaning equipment economically and efficiently;
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions;
  • Ability to perform heavy manual cleaning, lifting and minor grounds maintenance tasks;
  • Willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks;
  • Ability to get along with others;
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

Preferred: Knowledge of McKinney Vento laws and BOE Policy 5151/5151R. Experience working with temporarily displaced families,
including those experiencing housing instability, emergency shelter placement, or transitional housing.  Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, traumainformed, and culturally responsive support to families navigating crisis situations.

General Statement:                        

The incumbent is responsible for communicating the directives of the school principal to students and parents regarding conduct and discipline.  The incumbent acts as liaison to maintain ongoing communication in regard to directives and assignments issued by the school principal for the purpose of enforcing school rules.  The incumbent is involved in the daily monitoring of students in a non-instructional capacity such as informal meetings, home visits, parent contact, etc.  Work is performed under the general direction of a school administration official.  Supervision over other staff is not a responsibility of this position.

Responsibilities:                              

  • Meets with students and discusses disciplinary problems such as unsatisfactory conduct, problems in class, attendance and attitude, in order to refer the case to the appropriate administrative staff;
  • Contacts parents to discuss the problems their children are experiencing;
  • Conducts home visits and acts as liaison between home and school;
  • Facilitates and participates in conflict resolution meetings with students;
  • Prepares records and reports related to the students’ actions;
  • Assists school administrators improve parental involvement;
  • May attend school events and/or programs;
  • Enters and retrieves information in an automated information system;
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills preferred.
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee families preferred.
