Responsibilities:                              

  • Sweeps and mops floors, stairs and halls;
  • Mows lawns, trims shrubs, rakes leaves and performs other grounds keeping tasks as assigned;
  • Strips and waxes floors and halls using heavy machinery;
  • Performs general cleaning of rooms: dusting furniture; washing and cleaning walls, work benches and areas, blackboards, desks, windows, sinks, showers, toilets and locker rooms;
  • Empties wastepaper baskets, disposes rubbish from large barrels into removal truck containers;
  • Operates heavy rug shampoo equipment;
  • Clears snow and ice from sidewalks, doors, entryways and parking lots;
  • Maintains grounds by picking up trash and debris;
  • Arranges chairs, tables and other equipment in buildings for special events;
  • May unload truck deliveries, stock shelves, issue supplies, and perform other heavy lifting and moving tasks;
  • May perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, etc.;
  • May act as watchman when needed.
  • Does related work as required.

Responsibilities:                              

  • Makes regular inspections of assigned school buildings and grounds to maintain proper cleaning procedures and makes recommendations for improvements and new equipment;
  • Assigns and schedules cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to subordinate custodial employees, instructs them in proper use of equipment and tools, how to perform tasks and makes spot checks to insure proper cleaning procedures are followed;
  • Checks to ensure that building is heated, lighted, cleaned, locked and unlocked and in readiness for all activities;
  • Supervises and may participate in the operation and minor maintenance of boilers and related heating equipment including maintaining heating levels by adjusting thermostats, cleaning oil filters, checking oil levels, checking safety valves, greasing boiler pumps and motors and keeping boiler supplied with fuel oil; reports to superior on any unusual occurrences or repair needs;
  • Orders and maintains inventory of custodial supplies and cleaning products, paper goods and fuel oil;
  • Oversees the receipt, distribution and storage of incoming school supplies;
  • May perform minor preventative building maintenance and contact the Director of Facilities and/or Assistant Director of Facilities for major or complicated repair work which is contracted out;
  • Reports acts of vandalism or breakage to superiors;
  • Supervises and performs a variety of ground keeping functions limited to mowing grass, trimming shrubs, raking leaves, shoveling snow and related ground keeping duties;
  • May be responsible for the proper operation of a school swimming pool, including maintaining cleanliness and proper pH, chlorine level and water temperature;
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports related to the work
  • Performs related work as required.

    • Budget – Athletics & PE annual budget planning & management
    • Staff supervision – Evaluation and supervision of Health and PE teachers; and all athletic staff
    • Resources - Maintain an inventory of all PE and athletics equipment and supplies
    • Intramurals - Establish and coordinate all intramural programs at the secondary schools
  • ATHLETICS
    • Communication with families, students, staff, and community
    • Facilities – in collaboration with district facilities office ensure facilities prepped for play
    • Scheduling – All athletic competition scheduling, including scheduling all officials and annual PE/Health teacher scheduling
    • Athletic physicals
    • Transportation – All athletic practices and competitions in collaboration with district transportation office
